Description

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is a learning health system aiming to engage the full spectrum of care from bench research and clinical trials to clinical operations and quality improvement efforts. Coordinating Centers have been developed as a means of looking at indications or topics that disproportionately impact Veterans. These centers cover a variety of services for their target indications or focus areas and promote improved care across the VHA with a national rather than regional focus. This session is being presented by the Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias National Coordinating Center (ADRD NCC) and will describe Coordinating Centers broadly while providing specific examples related to our ADRD work. The session will include 4 brief presentations (~8 minutes) on each of our core pillars followed by a panel discussion. Each presentation will highlight a function of a Coordinating Center then share 1-2 “case studies” of how our ADRD NCC exemplifies that function. The panel will be structured with a mix of pre-planned questions from a moderator as well as opportunities for audience questions. The goal of this session is to share with a broad audience how they might benefit from engaging with a coordinating center and provide more detailed examples in our area of ADRD. It is intended to appeal to clinicians, researchers, potential partners (industry, non-profits, etc.), and others looking to be involved in the learning health system model of the VHA.
