TriWest will present a three member paned that will shed light on the importance of the NDMS and how the integration between DHA and the Managed care Support contractor are nested. The National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) must prepare and for the next large-scale conflict. NDMS and the Federal Coordinating Centers (FCC) play a critical role in rapidly increasing capacity and organization of medical capabilities to support localized disasters and support the U.S. Military’s wartime operations overseas. During a Large-Scale Combat Operation (LSCO), the FCCs provide the NDMS a capability to receive, track, and move combat injured patients returning to the United States through the Definitive Care program. Their ability to rapidly place patients not only increases the survivability rate of the Warfighter but quickly allows invaluable aeromedical assets to return to the evacuation system. The FCC’s utilize NDMS facilities within a 75-mile radius of the FCC. If receiving facilities are not available within that range, the medevac flight is directed to FCC’s further inland. When leveraged, the managed care support contractor can extend that 75-mile radius, introduce non-NDMS facilities into the system and assist with patient movement assets to assist the FCC, Health and Human Service and the Defense Health Agency's mission.
