Description

TeleCritical Care (TeleCC) promotes the VA’s Mission and Modernization Plan using the latest technology for remote and local co-management of Intensive Care Unit patients. Since its creation in July 2020, the TeleCritical Care National Program Office has collaborated with the Office of Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) to provide remote, technology based, intensive care for Veterans across the nation. By creating and using a single Technical Configuration Standard (TCS), HTM was able to successfully reduce purchased equipment variability, get better volume pricing, accurately budget the strategic purchase, more accurately track product, and improve the implementation timeline of this newly developed TeleCC technology to participating VAMC. TeleCC relies heavily on technology interoperability between a proprietary enterprise-wide monitoring platform and existing medical systems including EMR, CIS, patient monitoring, etc. – often running as individual VAMC instances. Multiple teams were involved in implementing this project across almost 90 VAMC. Led by national and local Biomedical Engineers, multidisciplinary project support included: doctors, nurses, administration, informatics specialists, IT, facilities engineering, medical equipment vendors, and consultants. Owing to the disparate participation and broad geography, a need arose for technical guides and process analysis to facilitate an understanding of the methods and individual roles driving successful utilization. Sigma Health Consulting, in partnership with Trilogy Federal, was contracted to meet that challenge. As consultants, we assembled technical guides, compiled and analyzed data, and observed and tracked implementation lessons learned/best practices. The purpose of this poster presentation is to share examples of deliverables provided to the VA and convey how these items were assembled, distributed, and used. Work done under the TeleCC umbrella has created innovations in clinical delivery that are now being expanded to other tele-technologies. Supporting this, the HTM TeleCC group has recently been formalized into the HTM Tele Technology Division; stretching the technical consulting services provided by Sigma.
