In 2019 The Office of the Army Surgeon General/Medical Command pivoted to readiness. With this pivot the Office of the Army’s Surgeon General’s Readiness and Operational Army Virtual Health (ROAV) Team made Readiness one of their main focus areas. Related Readiness initiatives included: reducing PHA backlog; introducing virtual health training; supporting training and Exercise; and providing virtual health related guidance. In 2019 a new 68W Individual Critical Task List was established- “Employ Telemedicine”. To prepare Soldiers to perform telemedicine the ROAV Team reached out to the Medical Training Simulation Center’s (MSTC) Program Manager seeking permission to introduce virtual health training to the MSTCs’ cadre. Once permission was granted the ROAV Team developed Virtual Health training for the MSTC Cadre for them to consider adding to their training. The Fort Cavazos MSTC site was the first site chosen in 2021. ROAV’s goal was to increase virtual health awareness by discussing equipment; use case scenarios; and various modalities. and discuss the importance and ease to use virtual health. Following the Fort Cavazos MSTC Site visit the Fort Cavazos MSTC Team incorporated Virtual Health Training into their program, and the Joint Emergency Medical Exercises. To date the ROAV Team has completed six (seven)? MSTC site visits. Two of these sites have fully integrating Virtual Health into their training programs and some of the other sites are planning to do the same. ROAV will continue to introduce virtual health to more MSTC sites and continue to provide follow up consultations.
