Quality leaders and safety standardization varied across the VHA system. Three key barriers made delivering on VHA’s mission to provide exceptional care a significant challenge: 1.Post COVID quality professional turnover was high and finding qualified candidates was difficult. 2.Variation in the extent and approaches to quality professional individual development across the largest integrated healthcare system in the US, and a significant opportunity to leverage the advantages of that same system to identify and meet the needs of quality professionals for professional development on both the individual and corporate levels. 3.Need for defined career path for quality professionals across the nation, inside and outside the VHA. Learn how the VHA partnered with NAHQ to conduct a business excellence process to assess quality professional, to include quality leader’s professional development needs; develop a targeted development plan aligned with a standardized, quality framework; created small tests of change and through cycles of learning are building systematic, well-deployed integrated quality professionals’ pathways.
