Date & Time
Tuesday, February 13, 2024, 12:00 PM
Description

Abstract: this poster presentation delves into the collaborative endeavors of the Department of Defense (DoD), specifically the Defense Health Agency (DHA), and the Veterans Affairs (VA) to minimize duplications in the separation health assessment process for service members from various branches - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Space Force. Service members often find themselves undergoing redundant exams and appointments as they plan to depart the military. This work has stakeholders in the DoD and VA as committees report to the Joint Executive Committee as well as the Benefits Executive Committee. This study explores the underlying reason behind these duplications and presents data-driven insights into potential root causes. This presentation encapsulates the collaborative journey undertaken by the DoD and VA to enhance the transition experience for service members. By understanding the root causes of duplication in health assessments and implementing data-driven solutions, the armed forces can ensure that service members health care needs are met efficiently and effectively as they embark on their post military life. This research not only benefits service members but also contributes to the broader discussion on improving health care coordination and information sharing across government agencies.
