Date & Time
Tuesday, February 13, 2024, 12:00 PM
Description

In this poster, a diverse cadre of medical personnel serving with the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps share experiences from their 2023 Military Tropical Medicine field mission to Ghana. During this mission, the authors visited the cities of Accra - the nation's capital - and Kumasi - the former capital of the Ashanti empire - where they participated in a series of subject matter and cross-cultural exchanges with host-nation healthcare personnel and U.S. Embassy partners. These exchanges included visits to tertiary medical centers, rural clinics, biomedical research laboratories, and destinations of various cultural and historical importance, which together informed the authors' perspectives on the sociocultural health contexts influencing the practice of clinical medicine, preventive medicine, and biomedical research in Ghana. By sharing their observations, the authors hope to enhance the cross-cultural competency of U.S. personnel operating in the region and illuminate opportunities for further health engagement with our Ghanaian partners.
