Learning Outcomes
At the end of this poster session, the reader shall:
1. Understand the importance of enhancing border inspection and screening by strengthening the effectiveness of border inspection stations. This includes improving their ability to detect and intercept illegal or counterfeit products entering the country through the use of advanced technologies and providing targeted training to inspectors for identifying hazardous substances, unapproved drugs, or non-compliant goods at points of entry.
2. Identify ways to collaborate within their agency and with the FDA to boost collaboration with international and domestic agencies. This includes strengthening partnerships with international customs, foreign regulatory bodies, and domestic law enforcement to share information and coordinate actions. These collaborative efforts aim to stop the supply of illegal products before they reach U.S. borders.
3. Understand the framework of risk-based surveillance and public health priorities in regulatory inspections. Implement a Targeted Risk-Based Surveillance System designed to prioritize inspections of high-risk shipments. This system leverages key factors such as country of origin, product type, and known safety or compliance concerns, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to safeguard public health.
4. Be equipped to educate their constituents on the dangers of illegal products and encourage industry compliance with FDA regulations. Through informed guidance to importers, distributors, and consumers, the FDA aims to reduce demand for illegal products and foster adherence to established safety standards, ultimately promoting public health and regulatory compliance.
