Description
Given the complexity of surgical care, many operations require a multidisciplinary approach to perioperative patient care. Although this is essential, this makes proper adherence to perioperative protocols challenging given the amount of providers involved with different case experiences. To increase adherence to perioperative protocols, our Division of Plastic Surgery implemented a quarterly, multidisciplinary, surgical team meeting with all involved providers. Following this meeting, we noticed a significant improvement to protocol adherence, and thus a significant decrease in surgical morbidity including improved operative time and lower transfusion rates. We aim to use this poster session to convey the benefits of multidisciplinary meetings through quantitative data so that others can implement meetings such as this at their home institution. We hope to convey that multidisciplinary care requires a multidisciplinary approach to team meetings.
