Description

Women comprise 16% of the total force, serving directly in all military roles. Reported outcomes continue to emphasize unique challenges women face during miliary service. Many resources have been created to meet servicemembers’ needs especially as it concerns fitness for duty and optimization of performance. The Readiness Program seeks to improve the operational lifespan and optimize performance of military members and their spouses. This research will focus on health and wellness performance markers of specifically active-duty (AD) servicewomen enrolled since the program’s inception at Brooke Army Medical Center. The focus is on preventative care as this principle is the cornerstone of public health. While there is risk of unnecessary testing, programs such as the one analyzed allow for the benefit to employ preventative care strategies early and intervene sooner. Key diagnoses such as prediabetes and anemia should reasonably necessitate proper diagnosis, follow-up, and continued screening. The impact on readiness and extension of operational lifespan has not been determined.
