Description
Military Family and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioners (F/WHNPs) must attain clinical competencies consistent with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials and National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty (NONPF) NP Core & Specialty Competencies. Military F/WHNPs also have a unique privilege and responsibility to develop specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to navigate military operational considerations, ensure a medically ready force, and lead within the Military Health System in both garrison and operational environments. We propose enhanced NP competencies in correlation with those from AACN and NONPF to ensure novice F/WHNPs are prepared to support military operations at home and abroad as they begin their practice as military advanced practice nurses. Application of these competencies will boost capabilities of the Military Health System consistent with the MHS strategy to develop and sustain a Ready Medical Force.
