Description
VA is committed to the provision of exposure-informed care. VET-HOME is VA’s new national hub serving Veterans with military environmental exposures and the first VA program using telehealth to provide clinical evaluations on a national scale. By establishing an intake center, utilizing telehealth, and collaborating with local VA facilities, VET-HOME has successfully expanded Veteran access to exposure-related information and resources.
Despite a limited scope of early operational efforts, VET-HOME has partnered with 45 unique VA facilities and succeeded in completing over 10,000 Airborne Hazard Open Burn Pit Registry evaluations to date. In addition, VET-HOME staff made over 30,000 outbound calls, responded to over 2,500 inquiries submitted to the online portal and implemented live chat. 19% of Veterans enrolled in VA care after contact with VET-HOME.
Facility EH coordinators shared the partnership with VET-HOME proved beneficial with resulting benefit directly to Veterans. The VET-HOME team is responsive and inclusive throughout the collaboration with the facility EH coordinators and implemented an effective process to collaborate.
