Description
VA conducted a Sprint focused on rapidly advancing towards access to care goals in 2023. All VA Medical Centers (VAMCs) participated in the Access Sprint by implementing one or more innovative solutions or best practices to improve access across three waves: Primary Care, Specialty Care, and Mental Health. The Access Sprint was part of the Veterans Health Administration’s strategy to create a continuous culture of access improvement. Key outcomes include: -25,000 more new patient visits compared to baseline -14% reduction in pending/active community care consults across Primary Care, Specialty Care, Mental Health waves between respective baseline week and end of Sprint -11% increase in new patient appointments compared to same period prior year This poster will provide lessons learned from the Access Sprint and considerations for other large healthcare institutions when implementing large change initiatives.
