Description

This poster will describe participation and perceptions of telehealth and virtual supervision among health professions trainees (HPTs) in the Department of Veterans Affairs. The data source for these analyses are the 2023 Trainee Satisfaction Survey, an anonymous voluntary survey developed by the VA Office of Academic Affiliations. The sample included 10,865 HPTs (43% physician HPTs, 40% associated health HPTs, and 17% nursing HPTs). The results show that participation in telehealth and virtual supervision varied significantly by HPT profession. The highest participation rates were reported by HPTs in associated health, followed by physicians, and nursing. Most HPTs expressed positive views of telehealth and virtual supervision. Profession-specific differences were identified in the type of training experience, and the frequency and depth of virtual supervision. As the VA’s telehealth infrastructure becomes a significant component of the clinical learning environment, future work should focus on refining profession-specific instructional methods tailored for defined educational needs and goals.
