Description

There are approximately 325k Active-Duty Airmen and Guardians spread across the globe at 88 installations. Increasingly healthcare shortages, and recovery from post pandemic operations have depleted access to care at nearly every location. There is a nationwide shortage of health care providers, and across nearly every medical AFSC in the USAF this degradation in manning significantly impacts the capabilities and wellness of the warfighter. Especially, during and even after the pandemic, mental health intakes has increased, and off-base referrals have strained the out of network system. In spirit of pursuing the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (TFF) Total Force Fitness initiative, IOS teams can detect and intervene, evolving mental, physical and spiritual health pillars earlier in the evaluation process. We will review the functions of several different IOS entities and how they are able to vector members who present with health concerns to appropriate pre-clinical or preventive resources, employ pre-clinical education, and hopefully, prioritize remission and case closure. While, at the same time initiate data collection to produce best practices and research to demonstrate that targeted approaches are worth their investment. The collection of data using a multitude of wearable technologies is an integral part of the AFMS discussion in addition to Human Performance software programs to counter fatigue and reduce the chance of safety incidents. These IOS programs are line funded and AFMS coordinates policy and compliance with quality and safety regarding these services. Recent interest from senior leaders have resulted in efforts to evaluate how to efficiently utilize existing assets and increase DAF-wide access to team support to enhance the resilience and readiness of the force.
