2. Draw connections between building a cross-functional clinical decision support tool (Clinical Pathways) and VA’s goal of delivering best-in-class cancer care
3. Develop an understanding of the advantages of Decentralized Clinical Trials for Veterans
4. Link the impact of telehealth infrastructure to expanded access to care.
VA works to cure cancer every day, and this breakout session will focus on the continued work to expand access to high-quality cancer care through the integration of clinical decision support tools, decentralized clinical trials, and telehealth as VA works to provide high-quality cancer care irrespective of a Veteran’s location. Participants will explore the rationale behind VA’s focus on specific cancer types related to clinical decision support tools, linking this prioritization to broader goals of delivering world-class care and expanding access to care. Key barriers to accessing cancer care, including structural, systemic, and institutional challenges within the Veteran community, will also be discussed. Attendees will gain insights into these obstacles and explore the solutions VA has enacted to address disparities in care access. The session will introduce VA’s implementation of decentralized clinical trials (DCTs) and their benefits to Veterans, such as improved accessibility and reduced burden on participants. It will also include an evaluation of the required research infrastructure and a discussion of potential areas for improvement to support broader implementation across the VA network. By linking these elements, the session will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how these care delivery innovations work in tandem to cure cancer every day.
