Description

Medical Access in Remote Areas Many uniformed service personnel are stationed in rural or remote areas where access to medical care is difficult. For example, the U.S. Coast Guard has a widely dispersed active duty workforce that increasingly relies on medical care outside MTFs and out-of-network care. As a result, Coast Guard has more than double the percentage of members, compared with the other services, who are covered by Tricare Prime Remote. This breakout session will consist of panel to discuss issues related to access to medical care in remote areas. Representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, Defense Health Agency, Indian Health Service, and Veterans Health Administration will discuss how they are addressing remote health and how access may be improved.
