Commander Alsayyid, ASCP Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist, began his career as a Generalist Medical Technologist, dedicating 17 years to serving underserved populations and enhancing access to critical healthcare services. In 2009, he was commissioned into the U.S. Public Health Service, where his initial assignments included roles as Senior Medical Technologist and Health Services Administrator with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC). Since 2021, Commander Alsayyid has held the position of Chief Laboratory Officer for the U.S. Coast Guard. In this role, he serves as the Coast Guard's Technical Consultant and Senior Medical Executive, ensuring approximately 90 afloat and shore units comply with all accreditation and regulatory standards. He also oversees various laboratory services and contracts, including Laboratory Informatics, Reference Lab, HIV Testing, DNA Depository, and the DoD Global Respiratory Pathogen Surveillance Program. Academically, Commander Alsayyid holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Alaska Anchorage and a Master of Public Health from the University of New England.
