DESCRIPTION:To support both Service Members and Veterans in receiving excep
tional health care\, the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and the Veterans Heal
th Administration (VHA) each embarked on respective\, yet complementary\,
journeys to become High Reliability Organizations (HROs). Both organizatio
ns deployed common strategies to accelerate the adoption and sustainment o
f HRO behaviors and practices. To support VHA as a learning organization a
dvancing toward becoming an HRO\, it is critical to accelerate and deepen
high reliability implementation across the health care system. This is don
 e by connecting high reliability leaders\, implementers\, and front-line s
taff members to share successes and failures within an environment of psyc
hological safety to model transformational culture change and facilitate l
earning and improvement. VHA’s enterprise-wide path to HRO starts with lea
dership engagement across all VHA organizations to foster a Culture of Saf
ety that empowers front line teams and provides reliably safe care for our
Nation’s Veterans. Likewise\, after a review of the Military Health Syste
m’s performance in 2014\, DHA took specific action to improve health care
 access\, quality\, safety\, transparency\, and patient engagement. In part
nership with the Service Medical Departments\, DHA continues to standardiz
e and spread these efforts by applying a coordinated approach\, in partner
ship with the Service Medical Departments to HRO transformation under the
Ready Reliable Care (RRC) brand. RRC spans clinical and non-clinical setti
ngs to drive better outcomes for patients\, staff members\, and the enterp
rise. Both organizations deployed common strategies to accelerate the adop
tion and sustainment of HRO behaviors and practices. The aim of this poste
r is to share aligned strategic communication initiatives that have suppor
ted each system’s integration of high reliability\, with a focus on engagi
 ng and educating the workforce.
