DESCRIPTION:The first commercial negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) sys
 tem\, Solventum™ V.A.C.® Therapy\, was introduced in 1995 and has become t
he global leader in NPWT. NPWT promotes an environment for wound healing b
y protecting the wound from external contamination\, providing a moist wou
nd environment\, and promoting the formation of granulation tissue. This i
ntegrated NPWT system is comprised of specialized dressings\, adhesive dra
pe\, pressure sensing pad\, and multi-lumen tubing that connects the wound
to the therapy unit\, enabling real-time pressure monitoring and fluid ma
nagement via a disposable canister. Clinical outcomes of V.A.C.® Therapy h
ave been documented in more than 1\,700 peer-reviewed publications and 79
randomized clinical trials. Technical advances have expanded NPWT modaliti
es\; when used alongside good clinical and field care practices\, these sy
stems enable healthcare providers to deliver life- and limb-saving care ac
ross the wound healing continuum and diverse operational environments. Whi
le these options have expanded the potential to manage a wide variety of w
ounds in patients\, they can complicate product selection. This presentati
on will highlight distinguishing features of available NPWT systems\, incl
uding traditional NPWT\, NPWT with instillation and dwell (NPWTi-d) of top
ical wound cleansing solutions\, closed incision negative pressure therapy
(ciNPT)\, and open abdomen negative pressure therapy (OA-NPT). Clinical e
vidence will be presented demonstrating how these wound management solutio
ns can impact the military wound care pathway—from the battlefield\, throu
gh evacuation to acute and ambulatory care in hospitals and clinics\, and
into the home. This session will describe key technological innovations\,
clinical evidence\, and best practices supporting the use of NPWT based on
treatment goals and military echelons of care. Participants will gain act
ionable knowledge to optimize wound healing\, improve patient outcomes\, a
nd support readiness and recovery in the context of wounds managed within
both the Department of War and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
