Speaker Bio
I am a comprehensive dentist, Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army and is a Translational Science PhD Candidate in the Data Science track with a thesis titled, “Data-drive Analysis of Artificial Intelligent Systems to Augment Military Dental Capabilities”. My goal is to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and technology development teams to advance development of clinical artificial intelligence (AI) technology. With over 15 years of organizational leadership experience, I have led clinical and research teams as large as 100 personnel with an annual operating budget up to $20 million. My research experience as a clinician-scientist ranges from bench top discoveries, pre-clinical animal studies, clinical trials to dissemination and implementation research. My approach is to remain engaged at all levels of research to cross boundaries for the advancement of science focused on clinically relevant solutions. Over my career, my contribution to science gives me the experience to lead these multi-dimensional research teams.
My current position is Program Manager and Chief, Artificial Intelligence Officer for Organ Support and Automation Technology Department at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research; where our team is developing novel devices and technologies to advance hospital-based medical interventions to an austere resource constricted pre-hospital environment. Areas of research include extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), AI-enhanced medical devices, clinical decision support systems, virtual health technologies, expeditionary additive manufacturing (3D printing) and clinical trauma research. I am principal investigator on multiple projects where my research focus is on the development, interpretation and implementation of clinical and expeditionary applications of AI systems to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with battlefield injuries. I am co-inventor of a portable AI-enhanced medical device and an Automated Dental Forensic System. The impact of my research will enable healthcare providers with a range of skillsets to more effectively perform medical interventions in the prehospital environment.
