Joseph "Joe" M. Yoswa is a seasoned communications professional with a long and distinguished career in both the military and civilian sectors. He currently serves as the Director of Public Affairs for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), a position he has held since March 2014. The Defense Logistics Agency manages the end-to-end global defense supply chain – from raw materials to end user disposition – for the five military services, 11 combatant commands, other federal, state and local agencies and partner and allied nations for the Department of War.
Mr. Yoswa is a combat veteran with tours in Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the Stabilization Force (SFOR) in Bosnia. He is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonial, having served in the army reserves and active duty 1986 - 2009. His military career was marked by a series of high-profile public affairs roles, including Deputy PAO for the MNF-I Commander during surge operations in Iraq, Director of Print/Web Communications for the Army’s Soldiers Media Center, and for DOD Public Affairs as the CENTCOM/EUCOM Press Desk Team Lead when Operation Iraqi Freedom began and the Deputy Director for the Joint Civilian Orientation Conference.
Following his military retirement, Mr. Yoswa transitioned to the civilian sector, bringing his extensive communications expertise to new roles. He was the Director of Communication for Fluor's Government Group in northern Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom supporting the Army's LOGCAP contract for almost three years.
He returned to government service as the Director of Web Communications for the Veterans Health Administration in 2013 before joining the DLA.
Mr. Yoswa holds a Master of Science in Science and Technology Journalism from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Minnesota. He is a recipient of the Department of Defense’s Thomas Jefferson award for best website and recognized twice for his combat service with bronze stars.
When not working, Mr. Yoswa is the Commodore of the Potomac River Yacht Clubs Association and spends time boating and camping with his wife Barbie and visits their six children: Michael, Taylor, Anthony, Jenna, Zachary and Nicole.
