Brigadier Bushby, raised in a military family, was commissioned into the Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps in 1998 after completing a Bachelor of Nursing Science at James Cook University. She is currently the Director General Health Business and Plans at Joint Health Command, which she assumed in 2023, and has recently also been appointed as the Director General Army Health Services.
With extensive experience across non-combat, combat, and training units, Brigadier Bushby has held key leadership roles in clinical service delivery, capability development, training reform, and strategic health policy. Her command and staff appointments include Joint Health Command, the Directorate of Army Health, and Commanding Officer of the Army School of Health.
She has deployed to Kosovo, East Timor, and Afghanistan, where she played a critical role in military healthcare delivery. These experiences reinforced her commitment to force health protection and compassionate personnel management.
Brigadier Bushby holds a Master’s in Health Services Management and multiple postgraduate qualifications in vocational education, emergency nursing, and pre-hospital care. As the Head of Corps for Army Nursing, a Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management, and the Vice President of the Australian Tactical Medicine Association, she continues to shape, influence and contribute to military and civilian healthcare.
